Shades of Rosé: Part Two

Back in May, we had the honor of participating in the Shades of Rose Fundraiser presented by Stark and Scalamandré, benefitting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. As we mentioned in our previous blog post, Komen Greater NYC focuses on innovative programs “that provide patient navigation/case management for screening and treatment, and support programs that provide crucial support services including transportation, financial assistance, meals for patients and their families, legal assistance and programs that eliminate barriers to clinical trials.  Komen Greater NYC also invests in health systems for comprehensive health insurance, funds for low cost and free breast care, and the creation of equipped multi-modal breast care facilities”. (www.komennyc.org)
The fight against Breast Cancer is one that is near and dear to our hearts, and we couldn’t have been more excited to design an item for auction to help fundraise for this amazing organization! 25 talented Interior Designers created designs for the event ranging from furniture pieces to fashion items, all exemplifying the fun spirit of Interior Design Long Island. We saw so many perfect pieces to use in a Hamptons Interior Design or NYC Apartment Interior Design project as well! We chose to venture out into the world of wearable fashion for the night! Here’s what we designed!

With the help of our workroom, and the talented Roe Agnese Gardner, we created this beautiful evening wrap and matching clutch! We thought it was the perfect choice for the elegant Scalamandré fabric we selected from the Stark Designer’s Luncheon. A big “Thank You!” to Fabricut for donating a lovely liner fabric to match, and Samuel & Son’s for donating one of their fabulous trims! It was such a fun and exciting process to see our design transition from concept to execution! We’re in love with how it turned out! Tell us what you think! Would you pair these items with your favorite little black dress?

For a little extra added sparkle, we pinned our wrap using this stunning St. John’s brooch!

The evening was as beautiful as the designs. The auction was hosted by Storage Wars’ John Luke and the gorgeous Elisa DiStefano of News 12 Long Island, and the entire Stark Showroom was transformed into a stunning night club illuminated in pink! The beautiful and brave Ann Caruso was honored at the event. It was a privilege to hear her share her story of triumph as a two-time cancer survivor. Her positivity and spirit radiated throughout the room!
It was a night filled with inspiration and love, and we are grateful to Stark and Scalamandré for asking us to be a part of it. We had a wonderful time! To learn more about the Susan G. Komen Foundation and their fundraising efforts, visit: ww5.komen.org

CHIC IN THE CITY

Some of our favorite Interior Design projects have taken place right in the heart of New York – The Big Apple! NYC Interior Design is all about taking a small space, and making it significant. It allows us to be chic, but stylish – and elegant, but with an edge. Mixing metals and playing with patterns and textures has resulted in some our most stunning spaces to date! Here’s a peek at some of our new, fresh and fun designs!
We accessorized with objects of various heights, shapes, and finishes to create the vignette for the Manhattan apartment pictured above. Doing so creates visual interest and intrigue within a space! We incorporated different textures into the accessories (check out that spiked sphere, and metallic snake skin lamp – we love!), as well the wall-coverings, and fabric selections for our custom designed pillows. Here’s a closer look!

Pillows are a great way to accessorize any sofa or arm chair, and are a perfect way to carry the colors in your selected palette throughout your space! P.S. How adorable are those ceramic grapes?! Where are all of our wine lovers?

Our fun with mixing metals continued into the apartment’s dining room. We found the fantastic gold metal link dining table you see pictured above, and accented it with a fun silver metal bowl filled with white ceramic artichokes! Adjacent to the table we took a hammered metal silver serving tray, and hung it on the wall over the built-in fireplace as a funky art piece! Finding inventive ways to repurpose pieces can create some unique and fabulous designs!

We have so much fun selecting the furniture and finishings for all of our NYC apartments Interior Design! The perfect pieces bring personality and style to all of our projects. Additional “finishing touches” to add flair to any space include lighting, window treatments (such as the chic treatments pictured above and below!), area rugs, custom bedding (pictured below) and more!
It takes an endless array of elements to build a room. We absolutely love the challenge of tying these elements together to create something beautiful! And because we know that like us, many of you are busy professionals constantly on the move, we’ve created a “move-in ready” concierge service to fit all of your design needs! Call us at 1-800-MHR-3003 to learn more!

MAGNIFICENT MOROCCO!

Stepping away from the Interior Design of Long Island NY, I had the wonderful experience of visiting the beautiful Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech, during a once in a lifetime trip to Morocco with my dear friend, Dawn! The Jardin Majorelle is an extraordinary garden that was once home to iconic designer, Yves Saint Laurent, who lived in the vividly blue building located on the premises. It is also the location of the beautiful Berber Museum he created, showcasing the stunning costumes and jewelry of the Berber culture. Berber women traditionally wore silver jewelry of great size and weight, a symbol of wealth gifted by their husbands at the time of marriage. The elaborate pieces are absolute works of art! Below is a look inside the Berber Museum and all of its beauty.

From the architecture to the fashion, inspiration was all around us. Arches, such as the one pictured below, are characteristic of Moroccan architecture, and are used on almost every door, entrance, and window! Doors are oversized and decorative?—?look at all of those carved metal details! Dawn and I couldn’t help but strike a pose in front of such a beautiful backdrop! How stunning are the jeweled tones used in the intricate ceramic mosaics?

I absolutely fell in love with the beauty of this country, and can’t wait to add flairs of Moroccan influence to future design projects! From fabrics, to wall coverings, adopting the colors and textures of Morocco add personality and fun. A perfect fit for any Hamptons Interior Design project! Traveling is a wonderful source of inspiration for me, and one of my greatest passions. I’ve recounted many of my experiences in my very own “Travels with Marilyn” editorials in House Magazine. Check the “Travels” section of our website for a collection of past travel diaries, and stay tuned to find out where I’m headed next!
Much to my surprise, I returned home from my trip to find a new Moroccan inspired wallpaper book from Cole & Son’s sitting in the office! I think they captured the spirit of Morocco perfectly, don’t you?

Buddha-ful Design!

The source of inspiration for our Hamptons Interior Design and NYC Apartment Interior Design projects usually comes from a playful pattern, a paint color, or a fun piece of furniture.
For our most recent project – one very close to my heart – the inspiration came from a beautiful art piece, gifted to me (and created by!) my daughter, and glass artist, Marlene Rose.
The piece, a Buddha sculpture made of hand-poured cast glass, inspired the redesign of my home’s family room!

Marilyn Rose - Hamptons Interior Designer

To carry the beautiful hues of chartreuse and cobalt blue around the room, I selected a variety of fabrics to re-upholster, and bring new life to my existing pieces – a sofa, bench, and two swivel chairs.

I chose to mix various textures and prints to create visual interest, and selected an overall neutral palette to elicit feelings of calm and serenity – much like the Buddha!  The piece also inspired the selection of a fresh new area rug and paint color, as well as wallpaper in the adjacent breakfast room and kitchen.

I chose a fun chevron pattern to reupholster my breakfast room chairs, and unify the two spaces.  While there are still some final decisions to be made, here are a few sneak peeks of what I’ve selected so far!

Marilyn H. Rose - Hamptons Interior Designer

In order for the art piece to serve as the focal point of the room, I chose to display it front and center on the re-designed mantle of my fireplace.  I decided to extend the mantle to support the size and weight of the sculpture, and added built-in spot lights to illuminate its beautifully colored glass! As the walls in my family room are quite high, I am also searching for a fun, decorative mirror to hang above.

Mirrors are a great way to accessorize a space, as their reflective quality adds light and expands a room.  Finishing touches for the room will include new window treatments, decorative pillows, and accessories!

Stay tuned for future updates!  I can’t wait to share the progress with you!

A special Thank You to my daughter, Marlene, for creating such a stunning piece!
