Interior Motives: North Shore Home Blooms from Deft Touch of Designer Marilyn Rose
Clients of Locust Valley-based designer Marilyn Rose give her top grades for her
ability to create gracious living spaces within budget, whether the project is a single room or
a Gold Coast estate, and the requested style is casual, elegant, glamorous, contemporary or
traditional. This design was for a North Shore client who asked to remain
nameless.
Living Room: The color scheme for the formal living room was derived from the colors in
the aubusson rug. Since the home is in a
wooded area, Marilyn and her team chose to accent the windows with luxurious side panels and
beautiful gilded poles and finials. The niches were created to display the client’s significant
collection of art pieces.
Kitchen: The colors of the kitchen are soft creams, done in a stripe pattern and
completed on site. Over the island, the team hung an antique billiard fixture that retained all
of its original etched glass – a real find.
Den/Family Room: The den was designed in a casual way. For the walls, Team Rose used a deep
hunter green striped wallcovering, accented with window treatment and upholstery in yellows and
gold. The side panels were also used here to bring in the beautiful views of the outside. The
tiles on the fireplace were in a delft design using these same colors.
Bedroom: The design of the bedroom was
centered around the luxurious French Empire bed with gilded wood details and velvet upholstery.
The walls were also upholstered to coordinate with the fabric on the bedding and
pillows.
